Transitions Life Skills Program

Transitions provides each participant with an individualized treatment plan based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to build life skills and prepare young adults for the transition from school to adulthood

Each treatment plan is based on the young adults needs and begins with skills assessments and functional behavior assessments.

All treatment plans and coordinated sets of activities take into account the individual’s preferences and interests.

What we offer:

Day Programming

Spectrum Services LLC offers day habilitation services. Our day habilitation program focuses on three core content areas; life skills, social skills, and personal development. Young adults receive training in functional academics, daily living skills, technology, travel training, health and fitness, money management, leisure skills, social skills, self-advocacy, as well as recreational and sports/fitness opportunities. Young adults are also able to choose areas of interest in which to gain skills, expertise and experience. Though the program is center-based, young adults are out integrating into their greater communities to gain real life experiences.

Vocational Programs

Spectrum Services LLC’s vocational program provides many and varied opportunities to promote pre-vocational job training and vocational, competitive paid work experience. It is our goal to help all participants who want to work learn the skills needed and find competitive employment in fields of interest. Young adults are actively involved in pre-vocational training, internships and apprenticeships, on- and off-site, as well as being exposed to a variety of integrated volunteer opportunities with community partners.

We work with our participants to match the individual’s aptitude, skills and interests with the appropriate environment to create long-term job placements.

Behavioral Supports

Behavioral supports are supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), allowing Spectrum Services LLC to provide clinically appropriate, evidence-based interventions when challenging behavior becomes a barrier to work, relationships or independence.

Community-based Instruction

Community-based Instruction teaches life functional skills. Young adults learn to order a meal in a restaurant, handle money, write checks, take public transportation, and enjoy cultural and educational experiences in the community.

Social Day Out & Recreational Events

Spectrum Services LLC hosts events, day trips and other activities within and outside its regular program hours. These events and activities encourage social interaction, decrease isolation and loneliness, and provide opportunities to practice social and life skills. Age appropriate events such as games, movies, trips to parks and other recreational activities, theater shows, dances and various cultural events let young adults live full and vibrant lives.

Maximizing independence through teaching and experience.

At Spectrum Services LLC we teach the following life skills, with the goal of maximizing independence.

Vocational and Job Skills

Young adults with developmental disabilities need to be ready to seek meaningful employment. We help them get there. We teach not only the “hard skills” like learning to interview for a job, filling out an application and developing a resume, but also the vital “soft skills” they so often lack, like:

  • Asking for help, supports or accommodations

  • Accepting and giving critical feedback

  • How to take a break

  • Topics for conversation at work

We offer a multi-tiered flexible continuum of supports based on each individual’s need.

Self-Direction and Self-Advocacy

Learning about and embracing who we are as people is an important part of becoming independent for everybody. For young adults with developmental disabilities, this can be complicated. At Spectrum Services LLC, we break it down, and offer direct instruction to teach adults to speak up for themselves.

Self-Expression and Communication

We teach and encourage young adults to express their thoughts, preferences and interests in appropriate ways.

Communication is often a major challenge for young adults with autism and related developmental disabilities. Whether a young adult uses verbal language, gestures or a communication device, we use effective strategies to teach appropriate personal communication skills to our program participants.

Life Skills to Promote Wellness

We teach the skills needed to make healthy choices that enhance well-being, such as learning to shop for nutritious food, preparing healthy meals, learning to enjoy a wide range of physical activities, and managing stress. Our horticulture program teaches farm-to-table concepts, and our integrated sports programs allow for physical fitness while making friends and having fun.

Self-Care

We provide direct instruction in personal hygiene, dressing for work, medication management, and more.

Social and Relationship Skills

Our social skills program works to increase the empathy, compassion and understanding needed for relationships at work, home, and social settings, to help our young adults develop and maintain meaningful relationships.

Life Skills for Living

We teach basic life skills that adults need to manage their lives. These include: personal finance (check book and banking skills, responsible debit and credit card use); travel training, clothing care (laundry, ironing, basic sewing); apartment management (kitchen and bathroom clean up, vacuuming, bed making, etc.), phone skills and much more. We have classes in healthy cooking for life, as well as for vocational training.
